Visa renewal from 2010 requires enrollment in Japan's health insurance program

This is non-etsy related but I thought it might be useful information for non-Japanese living in Japan.

"According to a new immigration law passed by the Diet earlier this month, foreign residents will be required to show proof of enrollment in Japan's health insurance program in order to renew or apply for a visa after April 1, 2010."

It's all very confusing. Thanks for the link Juana. I guess they're just trying to squeeze revenue out of foreign workers. It seems very illegal!

The government needs that extra revenue and they have found a workable way to get it.
